the short version

nudge is designed to respect your privacy. core signals stay on your device. discovery requests use minimal data to fetch nearby events. we don't sell your data. we don't track you across the web. we collect only what's needed to provide the service.

who we are

what data we collect

data you provide

  • apple sign in: when you create an account, Apple provides us with a unique identifier and optionally your name/email. Apple lets you hide your real email.
  • saved events: events you save are synced to your account so they appear on all your devices.
  • friend connections: if you use friend features, we store hashed phone numbers to find matches. we never store or see actual phone numbers.

data collected automatically

  • location: when you grant permission, we use your location for nearby suggestions and event discovery. on-device features use Apple frameworks (MapKit/WeatherKit) where possible. approximate location (and minimum query context) is sent to our servers only when needed for cloud discovery lookups.
  • device information: basic device info (iOS version, app version) for debugging and compatibility.

data we don't collect

  • precise location history
  • contacts (only temporary hashes for friend matching)
  • browsing history
  • advertising identifiers
  • cross-app tracking data

how we use your data

  • provide the service: find events near you, personalize recommendations
  • sync your data: saved events and preferences across devices
  • friend features: connect you with friends who also use nudge
  • send notifications: AI-powered event recommendations
  • process payments: handle nudge+ subscriptions via Apple’s App Store (in-app) or Paddle (web)

artificial intelligence

nudge uses AI to personalize your experience:

  • on-device AI: we use Apple's Foundation Models to generate personalized notification messages. this processing happens entirely on your device — no personal data is sent to external AI services.
  • recommendations: we match events to your preferences using on-device signals. when needed, discovery queries fetch event, activity, and adventure data through our API using approximate location.
  • no training on your data: your personal data is never used to train AI models.

legal basis for processing (GDPR)

we process your data based on:

  • contract performance: to provide the nudge service you signed up for
  • consent: for optional features like location access and notifications
  • legitimate interests: to improve and secure our service, prevent fraud

data sharing

we share data with:

  • Cloudflare: infrastructure and hosting (see their privacy policy)
  • Apple: App Store billing, StoreKit, and push notifications (see privacy policy)
  • Paddle: web payment processing (see their privacy policy)
  • Discovery providers: for discovery features we may query providers such as Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, PredictHQ, and OpenStreetMap/Overpass with approximate location only. no direct personal identifiers are shared with these providers.

we never sell your personal data. we don't share your data with advertisers.

international transfers

your data may be processed in the United States where our infrastructure is hosted. we ensure appropriate safeguards through:

  • EU-US Data Privacy Framework
  • Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable

data retention

  • account data: retained while your account is active
  • saved events: retained until you delete them or your account
  • location data: processed in real-time, not stored long-term
  • payment records: retained as required by law (typically 7 years)

your rights (GDPR)

if you're in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:

  • access: request a copy of your data
  • rectification: correct inaccurate data
  • erasure: delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • restriction: limit how we use your data
  • portability: receive your data in a portable format
  • objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • withdraw consent: at any time, for consent-based processing

you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country.

children's privacy

nudge is not intended for children under 16. we don't knowingly collect data from children. if you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we'll delete it.

security

we protect your data with:

  • encryption in transit (TLS 1.3)
  • encryption at rest
  • secure authentication via Apple Sign In
  • regular security reviews
